Christian the Lion by Anthony Bourke and John Rendall reviewed by Mrs K

Two friends living in London see lion cubs for sale at a department store. They buy the male who they call Christian. Before long this cute but bold cub is getting into all sorts of mischief and sticky situations in their small city apartment. Realising that city life is no way for a lion to live they fly with Christian to Africa where he can live with other lions. After months of rehabilitation into the wild by lion expert George Adamson, Christian is released to live as a wild lion.

A year after his release John and Ace (Anthony) go back to Kenya. Will their beloved lion recognise them? To find out, read this “must read” story.
This is a true story and the book is full of wonderful photos of Christian as a cub in London, with George and then in the wilds of Africa. There are various versions of this book, two picture book stories for Pre-Preppies, a version for Prep level and one for adults. This is definitely one of the best books I have ever read. I loved every minute!
